Musée Jean Cocteau - Le Bastion - Menton

Culture

The Jean Cocteau Museum – Severin Wunderman Collection is a unique venue dedicated to the multifaceted work of the artist. Located at the foot of Menton's old town, opposite the covered market and by the sea, it showcases a rich collection of drawings, paintings, ceramics, photographs, and manuscripts over 2,700 m², tracing the evolution of his work from the 1910s to the 1950s. The donation by Severin Wunderman in 2005 enabled the creation of this museum, designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti. The building's white concrete façade reflects Cocteau's distinctive style. The museum is currently closed due to the 2018 floods, but temporary exhibitions continue to be held at the Bastion, another emblematic site of the artist in Menton.
